Iceland's Leading Engineering School

The Department of Engineering brings together scientific rigour, curiosity and technological creativity to push the frontiers of research and innovation. It's this atmosphere that attracts talent from every continent. It's our passion that drives us to publish the most citations in the country. It's why industry is excited to collaborate with our staff and students.

For prospective students, the Department of Engineering offers courses and programmes at the bachelor, graduate and doctoral level. Our faculty and staff bring research and industry-based expertise in a wide range of topics including financial engineering, biomedical engineering, structural engineering, nanophysics, risk and decision analysis, speech processing and language technology.

Our engineers are found innovating across our numerous laboratories, be it our civil or energy lab, UAV or physics lab, or in our custom wind tunnel.

The Department of Engineering is also home to the Master of Project Managment - MPM and the Iceland School of Energy, an industry-specific graduate school offering degrees in Sustainable Energy Engineering and Electric Power Engineering.

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction for all undergraduate courses is Icelandic. Detailed information on each programme can be found here.

The language of instruction for all graduate courses is English. The singular exception is the Master of Project Management (MPM), which is offered in Icelandic. The MPM listing can be found here.

International Cooperation

The Department of Engineering at Reykjavik University takes part in the Erasmus+ project: STEM skills and competences for the new generations of Nordic engineers. The core activity of the project is a STEM knowledge hub called NordEnHub, an arena for exchange of experiences, best practices, and knowledge.

Partners in the project are: Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan (KTH) in Stockholm which is the coordinator of the project, Reykjavik university (RU) in Iceland, Aalborg university (Aau) in Denmark, Aalto university (AALTO) in Finland, NORDTEK (network of the Rectors and Deans of the Technical Universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries), Association of Nordic Engineers (ANE) and University of Stavanger (UiS). Results of the project can be found in the Nordic Engineering Hub (NordEnHub).
