Position Summary: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University has multiple openings for tenure-track faculty positions. We invite applications from outstanding candidates with expertise and interests in one or more of the research domains of autonomous systems, energy and sustainability, aerospace engineering, biomedical engineering, and advanced manufacturing. We are particularly interested in candidates who are committed to cross-disciplinary research.
The department has established research strengths in robotics, autonomy, nonlinear dynamics and control, renewable and sustainable energy, multi-phase heat transfer, biomechanics and biofluids, and materials engineering. Candidates are expected to complement and strengthen existing department research and/or develop new high-impact research directions. The integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced computational optimization methodologies in these areas of research is highly desirable. The appointments begin in August 2025.
Villanova is a Carnegie-classified doctoral university. The Mechanical Engineering department has 24 full-time faculty members, more than 300 undergraduate students, and over 125 graduate students, including 55 Ph.D. students. Faculty in the department are internationally recognized for their research achievements. The department hosts several research centers, including the NSF I/UCRC in Energy-Smart Electronic Systems and the Villanova Center for Analytics of Dynamic Systems. Research in the department is poised for further growth with the recent opening of Drosdick Hall, the new home of the College of Engineering. Drosdick Hall features state-of-the-art, collaborative research and educational spaces.

Minimum Qualifications: Required are a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, a proven ability for high quality research, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovation.
