The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in Electrical and Computer Engineering to begin in September 2025. We are seeking candidates at the rank of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor; including the possibility of a named professorship.

Electrical and Computer Engineering has grown significantly in the past twenty years. This search is for multiple openings as part of a multi-year hiring plan with at least two slots for this year and additional searches planed for the next two years. These searches are looking for the best candidates broadly in Electrical and Computer Engineering with some example areas of interest listed below. This search is also part of a wider hiring campaign by the School of Engineering to grow its research and educational capabilities in areas of interest including artificial intelligence and sustainable materials. The School of Engineering is deeply committed to developing pragmatic, innovative solutions for environmentally and socially responsible use of energy and materials applying methods that minimize environmental damage to the natural environment. Overall, we are looking for the best candidates to add to our dynamic and growing department with a strong background in electrical and computer engineering, or a closely related field. Some example areas of interest are listed below:

  • Artificial Intelligence with a focus on probabilistic machine learning and artificial intelligence, graph-based learning, mathematical foundations of AI systems and architectures, or dynamical systems and optimization including mean field game and control problems. Additionally, there is strong interest in the application of AI; including to the fields of energy systems, photonic imaging systems, medical imaging, wearables/human-sensing, omics, and next generation communication systems.
  • Computer Engineering with strong record of research in hardware and software systems. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary research of emerging domains including AI/ML, quantum computing, security, sustainable technologies, wearable computing, and robotics, autonomous vehicles.
  • Electronic materials, devices, or circuits with focus on materials modeling, wide bandgap materials, sustainable materials, epitaxial growth (e.g. MBE), and fabrication of novel devices and circuits for emerging applications: e.g. renewable energy; power electronics RF, microwave, millimeter wave, and terahertz applications; photonics; quantum computing; spintronics; applications in 5G/6G; flexible electronics; and other next generation technologies

We are looking for engaged and engaging researchers and teachers with a strong vision who can build and maintain a high-quality research program at Tufts and whose research will both connect with some of our current faculty and extend into new areas. Tufts' School of Engineering (SOE) distinguishes itself by the interdisciplinary focus and integrative nature of its engineering education and research programs, within the intellectually rich environment of both a "Research I" university and a top-ranked undergraduate institution. The past 20 years have been a period of extraordinary growth for SOE at Tufts, with recruitment of well over half of its current tenured and tenure-track faculty members and a more than six-fold increase in research productivity. Tufts offers the best of a liberal arts college atmosphere, coupled with the intellectual and technological resources of a major research university. Home to seven graduate and professional schools across three campuses, Tufts University prides itself on its culture of cross-school partnerships. Located on Tufts' Medford/Somerville campus, only six miles from historic downtown Boston, SOE faculty members have extensive opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration, as well as participation in the rich intellectual life of the region.
