The Indiana University (IU) Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and the School of Health and Human Sciences at IU Indianapolis invite applications for a tenured associate or full professor position in the areas of Wearables and Biotechnology in Health and Rehabilitation. Appointments will begin August 1, 2025 (or earlier) on the Indianapolis campus.
This position is a strategic joint hire with the newly established Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute (CBATI) at IU Indianapolis. Faculty affiliated with CBATI will be either CBATI Investigators or CBATI Fellows to receive additional research support, including new state-of-the-art research facilities and opportunities to lead interdisciplinary teams. Candidates must demonstrate an outstanding scholarly record of research, exhibited by high-impact peer-reviewed publications and a forward-looking, externally funded research agenda as Principal Investigator (PI). Candidates who are leading externally funded research groups (including post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and research staff) are highly encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have an externally funded research agenda that is on a strong upward trajectory and have significant experience in leading research programs as PI in one or more areas of interest for the institute, including, but not limited, to: wearable health monitoring devices, biotechnology for health and rehabilitation, biometric sensors, implantable devices, bioprinting, and advanced biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
The tenure home and 70% of effort of the new hire will be in the Luddy School (Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics), with 30% of effort with the School of Health and Human Sciences. This is a research-intensive position. The candidate is expected to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaborative endeavors that transcend institutional silos to initiate and advance ambitious research initiatives within CBATI. The candidate is also expected to contribute to translational research efforts that have a significant impact on the growing biotechnology innovation ecosystem at IU Indianapolis through invention disclosures and patentable discoveries. Appointment expectations include a minimum teaching load to contribute to the department's mission.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, biotechnology or related disciplines.
- Tenured
- A record of outstanding research productivity and impact in any of the above-mentioned areas, or a demonstrated ability to develop one. The demonstrated ability to secure external funding is required.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in-person, online, or in blended learning biomedical engineering related courses.

With a goal of quickly delivering IU health and sciences innovations from the bench to bedside, the institute will aim to stimulate substantial growth in the disclosure and licensing of inventions, discoveries and innovations, as well as industry partnerships and IU-launched startup companies. With a $138M grant from Lilly Endowment, IU recently launched a major initiative to accelerate bioscience innovation. The IU Launch Accelerator for Biosciences, known as IU LAB, at the 16 Tech Innovation District in Indianapolis, will leverage the expansive strengths of the Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute, the Integrated Nanosystems Development Institute and the Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing and offer opportunities for IU researchers across campuses to engage in impactful research that will improve human health. In partnership with the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, the institutes will inspire and inform high-demand degrees, certificates and microcredential programs, supporting talent development in Indiana’s growing life and biosciences industry. IU LAB will be housed in a six-floor, 150,000-gross-square-foot facility that is expected to open in 2027 and will serve as IU’s permanent home in the 16 Tech Innovation District. The initiative will enhance Indianapolis’ growing human health innovation sector, putting IU LAB at the intersection of other major health-related anchor institutions, including IU Health’s new downtown hospital and health district.
