Description 

We seek a highly motivated full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate with interest in environmental biotechnology, biochar technology, waste-derived biofuels and bioproducts, advanced water treatment/reuse, advanced materials for environmental remediation.

Responsibilities 

  • Environmental biotechnology and biochar technology for wastewater treatment/reuse, runoff water treatment, anaerobic digestion, greenhouse gas control, and other applications
  • Novel water treatment to remove various emerging contaminants and pathogens
  • Novel microbial and algal biofuels and bioproducts
  • Advanced materials for environmental applications
  • Supervise technicians and undergraduates. 
  • Coordinate research activities with a large team of collaborators.  
  • Present data in scientific meetings. 
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.

Required Education and Experience 

  • A Ph.D. in environmental engineering/science, chemical engineering, biological engineering, agricultural engineering, microbiology, biochemistry, and  other relevant disciplines.
  • Experience with water treatment, biofuel and bioproduct, emerging contaminants, and advanced materials. 
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent English writing and oral communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment  
  • Basic statistical skills 

DESIred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Production and applications of biochar for environmental, energy and agricultural processes
  • Environmental biotechnology for analyzing microbial communities, antibiotic resistance, microbial pathogens, and microbial metabolites
  • Production of biofuels and bioproducts from agricultural waste, microalgae, and other biomass
  • Treatment of emerging contaminants (such as antibiotics, algal toxins, PFAS) in water and soil
  • Production, characterization, and applications of advanced materials, including biochar and carbon materials
  • Analytical instruments (i.e., LC/MS, HPLC, GC, ICP, IC, XRD, SEM/EDX, XPS etc)
  • Analysis of nutrients, antibiotics and microbial pathogens from soil, water and plant
  • Molecular techniques including qPCR and 16S microbial community analysis
  • Statistical analysis and design of experiment
