  • His research focuses on synthesis of novel quantum materials and their fundamental understanding their optical, electrical, mechanical, and magnetic properties using state-of-art experimental and theoretical techniques. Quantum materials are next-generation systems that offer unique properties and performance that cannot be accomplished with any other classical material systems. Prof. Tongay's team aims to synthesize and understand these materials to find new applications in quantum computing, quantum information, and other nanoscale applications such as catalysis, CO2 reduction, energy conversion, and photonics.
