Expertise: Dr. Smith's research is focused on the the development of cognitive sensors inspired by biological organisms, such as the bat. Such sensor will have future roles in autonomous vehicles/robots and the development of prothetic devices to allow blind people to better perceive their environment. In addition, he maintains an active interest in passive bistatic radar systems, through-the-wall imaging radar, micro-Doppler signature phenomena and radar target recognition.
