Professor Rotta Loria is interested in fundamental and applied problems centered on the mechanics of geomaterials and structural systems in the context of energy production and storage. These problems are addressed through theoretical and experimental studies, and involve different subjects and scales that include, without being limited to: (i) the understanding and modification of the multiphysical behavior of geomaterials, from the particle to the continuum scale; (ii) the characterization and analysis of the multiphysical interactions between novel multifunctional structures and the subsurface, at the continuum scale; and (iii) the conceptual development and modelling of multifunctional urban systems via innovative structural networks, at the city scale.
