The unifying theme of Dr. Elshaer's research is identifying problems affecting the resiliency and sustainability of our structures and cities, and finding solutions for these problems throughout assessment, design, mitigation and optimization. His current research projects work on the following research areas:
(Artificial Intelligence)-based optimization procedures and their applications in structural engineering fields including the design of structural elements and city-scale planning
Risk assessment and mitigation of structures using adaptive mitigation systems such as aerodynamic mitigations and damping devices
Progressive damage assessment of structures under wind load focusing on city scale assessment during hurricanes and tornados
