Processing of ceramic materials, with particular emphasis on nanostructured ceramics as well as `conventional` structural and functional ceramics and their composites. Work also done on traditional ceramics. Processing routes investigated include rheological forming (e.g. slip and gel casting, in-situ coagulation moulding, etc), dry forming (e.g. die pressing)and the use of microwaves during processing (e.g. microwave sintering, joining, CVI, etc). Work is also underway on ceramic-metal and ceramic-polymer interpenetrating composites.
