Elif Ertekin’s research interests in the field of computational science lie at the crossroads of mechanical science, materials physics, and engineering. Thanks to numerous advances in computational methods over the last few decades, computational science now has the potential to pivotally impact our ability to understand, predict, and design materials with enhanced functionality to address critical issues in the areas of energy, transportation, and the environment. Elif’s work focuses on predicting the mechanical and electromagnetic properties of advanced materials systems at both the bulk- and nano- scale. She works in close collaboration with both experimental as well as other computational colleagues to apply computational methods at the atomic, meso, and continuum scale to problems of interest
