Professor Mitra's Primary research interest is in shape analysis in the context of 3D geometry. This includes symmetry and regularity detection, inverse procedural modeling, inferring compact shape representations and abstractions, and using inferred model properties for improved shape manipulation and understanding. Mitra is also interested in other applications of geometric modeling including applications for enabling tools for creation of innovative art forms, developing mechanisms for visual CAPTCHA-s, efficient and robust mechanisms for shape acquisition varying from intricate delicate objects to large scale urban landscape
