Dr. Avnet’s research addresses the organizational and cognitive dimensions of technical organizations with an emphasis on systems-level interactions between organizational culture and operational performance. His work integrates methods and frameworks from across disciplines, including systems theory, engineering design, network analysis, social and organizational psychology, management science, and public policy. Current projects include end-to-end supply chain analysis using the Design Structure Matrix (DSM), systems analysis of safety culture and organizational learning in the chemical and nuclear industries, decision-making in engineering design, and communication networks and shared mental models in healthcare delivery. Dr. Avnet is affiliated with the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center (MKOPSC), and he is a faculty fellow of the Center for Health Systems and Design (CHSD).
