The University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position jointly appointed to the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ( and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology in the School of Medicine and Dentistry ( Preference will be given to candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, however outstanding candidates at higher ranks will be considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and should have demonstrated significant research accomplishments that intersect biomedical engineering and pharmacology or physiology, or related fields. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, microphysiological systems, synthetic biology, drug delivery, biomaterials, quantitative cellular and/or systems physiology, and regenerative tissue engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program and to participate in departmental educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Numerous opportunities for collaborations exist, with BME departmental strengths in tissue engineering, materials science, biomedical optics, neuroengineering, nanotechnology, microdevices and biosensors, and biomedical ultrasound; research strengths in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology include mechanistic studies related to neuropharmacology, cardiovascular physiology, G protein-coupled receptors, extracellular matrix, calcium and ion channel signaling, all in the context of both normal and diseased states.

The University of Rochester Medical Center and the adjacent Schools of Arts, Sciences and Engineering are part of a world- class life sciences research campus, providing excellent opportunities for multiple cross-disciplinary interactions and collaborations. The Robert B. Goergen Hall for Biomedical Engineering and Optics houses the Integrated Nanosystems Center and is a short walk from the University of Rochester Medical Center.
