Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE)  (https://ceas.uc.edu/academics/departments/electrical-computer-engineering.html) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels with a start date of  August 15, 2025.  We seek a candidate in the areas of electrical and computer engineering, such as, but not limited to:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing, devices, and circuits: Analog and digital electronics (VLSI, ASIC, Integrated Systems); Emerging computing systems
  • Communication theory and systems: Digital and wireless communications; Signals and systems; Signal processing; RF electronics
  • Cybersecurity: Malware analysis; Reverse engineering; Intrusion detection; Network security; Embedded system security; Hardware security and trust; Security of cyber-physical systems; Formal methods for security; Security-aware VLSI design and design automation
  • Operating Systems and Computer Networks: Distributed and Real-Time operating systems; Networked and cloud computing systems; Parallel and distributed systems; Computer networks; wireless networks and distributed sensor systems
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI):  AI approaches for image processing and understanding; representations learning, AI for language, image, and video interpretation, Natural language processing and understanding; Text processing and mining; machine learning systems for Big Data; Deep learning based approaches for image and text processing; Robotics and intelligent autonomous systems; Learning and inference in robotic systems; Human-computer interfacing and collaboration; Neuromorphic systems; Bio-inspired and biomorphic systems; Explainability, security vulnerabilities, and trust in AI systems; Formal verification of AI and machine learning algorithms and their pipelines for security and trustworthiness

 

ECE is dedicated to educational excellence and developing and sustaining premier research programs with national and international recognition. The chosen candidate will be expected to contribute (at both the graduate and undergraduate level) to the department’s educational and mentoring mission of preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace. The chosen candidate will also be expected to contribute to the advancement of research missions within the department and college. In addition, the chosen candidate will be expected to further the strategic goals of the Department, the College, and the University via collegial collaboration and teamwork both within the ECE Department and with other CEAS departments, across the University, and with regional industries. The candidate will work with the other Faculty in the Department and the Department Head to reach the goals set by the upper administration which include increasing the enrollment of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and increasing the overall level of research funding in the department through collaborative efforts within the university and with other academic, industrial, and government laboratories.

 

Rank, salary, and startup funding will be commensurate with credentials.

 

About ECE Department: The ECE Department at UC is one of the largest departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. ECE currently has 29 tenured or tenure-track faculty (including 2 IEEE fellows and 7 NSF CAREER awardees) and 7 professor educators. The department is home to 980 undergraduate students, 180 master students, and 100 Ph.D. students. ECE's annual research funding exceeds $7 million.

               

Essential Functions  

  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise in one or more of the areas above in online and in traditional classroom settings.
  • Developing an externally funded research program in their field of expertise.
  • Participating in service-related activities related to education, student success, and accreditation and others as deemed necessary at the direction of the department head, such as departmental and/or college committee memberships such as but not limited to department undergraduate and graduate curriculum committee, faculty development award committee, and working with student groups.
  • Advising graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Contributing to the advancement of research missions within the department and college by publishing research results in professional journals and refereed conference proceedings.
  • Participating in curriculum and course development.
  • Contributing (at both the graduate and undergraduate level) to the department’s educational and mentoring mission of preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace by teaching new dual level and graduate level classes aligned with the most recent development in the fields of research in the department.
  • Furthering the strategic goals of the Department, the College, and the University via collegial collaboration and teamwork both within the ECE Department and with other CEAS departments, across the University, and with regional industries by creating new educational and research opportunities aligned with local, state, and nationwide job market.
  • Working with the other Faculty in the Department and the Department Head to reach the goals set by the upper administration which include increasing the enrollment of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and increasing the overall level of research funding in the department through collaborative efforts within the university and with other academic, industrial, and government laboratories.

 

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment:

  • PhD. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field.
