Multiple Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is going through significant growth and expansion. We invite applications from highly qualified individuals for cluster hiring. Multiple full-time, 9-month tenure-track positions are available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, demonstrate strong potential or record in conducting leading-edge research and publishing high-quality scholarly work, and be able to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses of the Department.
General MME Positions
We invite applications from highly qualified individuals in the broad area of mechanical engineering, including manufacturing, health science, and materials for defense and harsh conditions. A proven track record of competitive funding as PI is highly desired. The candidate should also be highly interested in serving the needs of the MME Department and the university community.
Advanced Manufacturing Positions
Ideal candidates will have a strong record of research and scholarship in advanced manufacturing and be actively involved in developing processes and designing innovative applications related to components and devices, sensing, signal and image analysis, monitoring, and materials. Topics of interest include optimizing designs, predicting system behaviors, improving manufacturing processes, and enabling autonomous systems. The areas of interest can also include creating intelligent, automated, and controllable systems that can sense their environment and respond accordingly. Skills in applying machine learning, deep learning, and related approaches to the above areas are desired.
Automation and Control Positions
Ideal candidates will have a strong record of research and scholarship in automation, control, and robotics for improved efficiency, safety, and productivity. This can be leveraged through UAB’s strengths in the Materials Processing & Applications Development (MPAD) Center, a unique on-campus manufacturing pilot plant and foundry facility, as well as the broad biomedical community on the UAB campus. A candidate should be actively involved in the integration of mechanical and electronic systems, automation, sensors and actuators, control systems, embedded systems, and/or remote sensing. The expertise can also be related to electric vehicles, device-to-human integration, health systems, or remote medical diagnosis and surgery.
