United Arab Emirates University is the principal university of the UAE. It was the first federal university to be founded (in 1976) and is therefore approaching its 50th anniversary. UAEU remains the only fully comprehensive university in the UAE. It is situated in the historic city of Al Ain, which is about 100km inland of both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. UAEU is in the process of transitioning into a research-intensive institution to be fit for its second half-century. It enrolls approximately 13,000 students, with a growing international student body. As UAE’s flagship university, it offers a full range of accredited, high-quality graduate and undergraduate programs through its nine colleges.
The College of Engineering was inaugurated in 1980 and includes five academic departments that offer eight Bachelor’s degrees, namely Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering, all of which are recognized nationally by the Ministry of Education and accredited internationally by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The Engineering departments also offer M.Sc. degrees in all the Bachelor's disciplines plus Water Resources and an interdisciplinary Master’s in Engineering Management. Ph.D. programs are also offered in all scientific disciplines. The College currently has about 100 faculty and 2000 students.
This position of Dean, College of Engineering provides an outstanding opportunity to lead one of the largest Colleges in the University and one of the most prominent engineering colleges in the Middle East. We are seeking an ambitious and highly qualified individual who would be able to make a mark in this dynamic region and take the college into its second half-century. We are looking for an academic administrator with a futuristic vision to make a positive impact on the College, the University, and the UAE. The anticipated start date is 1st January 2023, or as soon as is practicable.
Responsibilities
The Dean of the College of Engineering reports to the Provost and has overall responsibility for academic leadership and administration of the College of Engineering.
Dean of Engineering manages administrative functions of the College of Engineering; develops College strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting; provides senior-level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, faculty academic affairs, students’ life, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty evaluation, promotion, career development; manages and facilitates the growth of research and development programs; develops and manages the College budget and finances; coordinates with facilities planning and management; cultivates partnerships with industry, foundations, and government organizations; leads College fundraising and cultivates relationships with donors.
Compensation
The position carries a tax-free salary commensurate with experience, as well as housing, health insurance, annual air tickets, educational allowance (if applicable), and end of service compensation.

He/she should have a strong track record in research and a demonstrable commitment to research and teaching excellence. The minimum qualifications for this position include:
- D. in Engineering of an appropriate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with education from pre-eminent institutions of higher education.
- Full Professor with a minimum of 15 years of responsible education-related experience including 5 years of academic leadership in higher education.
- Strong track record of research, publications, and citations.
- Strong track record in teaching reflecting academic excellence.
- Ability to build collaborations and partnerships with other top universities globally.
