The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The candidate will specialize in intelligent nature-based solutions for treatment of waterborne pathogens. This includes passive treatment systems such as constructed wetlands, engineered biofilters, ponds, swales, etc. and expands to nature-based solutions that integrate real time monitoring and control technologies to improve water treatment. This forms part of a cluster hire and the successful candidate will codevelop an internationally recognized research program on the surveillance and control of waterborne pathogens and/or antimicrobial resistance (AMR). There are exciting opportunities for collaboration within SES (e.g. research strengths exist in nature-based solutions, soil sciences, aquatic sciences and environmental microbiology) and the broader research community at UoG. The candidate will help to develop and teach courses in the area of water and environmental systems at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The willingness to work collaboratively and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds is essential.

 

The candidate must hold a PhD in Environmental Sciences, Engineering (Environmental or Civil), Environmental Biology/Microbiology, or a related field, and a preferred minimum of three years post-doctoral experience. The candidate must have a proven record of research excellence and impact in nature-based water treatment, must have skills or abilities applicable for intelligent monitoring/control/automation of water treatment systems and must have skills or abilities applicable for the treatment of waterborne pathogens/AMR. The candidate will have demonstrated potential to: collectively establish an internationally recognised research program; align with the strategic direction of the university (https://www.uoguelph.ca/president/strategic-plan/) and align with the CERC on Waterborne Pathogens (https://www.cerc.gc.ca/chairholders-titulaires/index-eng.aspx); attract, develop and retain excellent trainees/students/researchers; lead a team which commits to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practices; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in water and environmental sciences; and, provide service to SES, UoG and the wider community.
