JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has a tenure-track faculty position in the advanced manufacturing areas available at the assistant professor level. Research areas of interest include but not limited to: physics-informed machine learning and artificial intelligence, dynamics and controls, and computational design of products and processes. The candidate will be expected to develop an active externally funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering. Candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant discipline.
The Mechanical Engineering Department at WPI (http://www.wpi.edu/academics/me/) has 28 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 8 full-time teaching faculty and offers undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering to over 900 students. The department offers graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and manufacturing engineering to over 250 graduate students. The department's annual externally sponsored research awards have exceeded $17.5M.
