Purdue University Northwest, located in Hammond and Westville, Indiana is inviting applications for a Post-doctoral research associate position in engineering. The successful candidate will work on a project to develop low-order physics based model of the reactor dynamics to develop a model-based feedback controller for the reactor. The addition of a feed forward control component to improve the performance against disturbances in the solar input will also be investigated. The determination of the controller parameters, such as proportional coefficient and derivative coefficient will follow standard tuning rules, and the closed-Loop simulation of the system will be used to test the controller performance in tracking the desired set-points and rejecting process disturbances. The performance of the controlled system relative to an uncontrolled one will be evaluated via computer simulations for a range of typical meteorological conditions. The control model will also be tested and calibrated with the bench scale Solar Fuel reduction and oxidation reactors.
Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical or Aerospace Engineering
Review of applications will begin on July 20, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled. This position begins August 1, 2020 and employment will be contingent on a successful background check. Interested applicants should submit electronically a letter of application, curriculum vita, statement of purpose, and a list of professional references.
