Key Performance Area
Deliver high-quality and innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, designing assessments that support student success. Supervise and mentor research students, ensuring academic integrity and ethical practice. Lead curriculum development and review to maintain academic relevance and industry alignment. Conduct individual and collaborative research, build a strong publication record, and pursue external funding opportunities. Provide academic leadership, mentor junior staff, and foster a collaborative departmental environment. Contribute to governance through active participation in committees and support institutional quality assurance and strategic initiatives. Assist with student selection, registration, and advising in line with university policies. Lead outreach and capacity-building initiatives with community and industry partners. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of Department or senior leadership.
Job Requirements
A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Informatics or related field with at least seven (7) years of lecturing experience at tertiary education level and/or industry experience or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Proven competence in successfully sourcing research or project funding from third-party sources, successful initiation and management of research projects, curriculum development, and strong management/organisational and mentorship skills. Competence to teach at both under- and post-graduate levels in at least three of the following courses: E-health, ICT4D Mobile Application development, Machine Learning, Ethics for Computing, and Advanced Applications of Informatics. Competence to assume academic leadership, establish professional networks, and maintain links with industry, as well as experience in developing postgraduate programmes. Sound research profile of at least twenty (20) publications in peer-reviewed journals/books/conference proceedings/patents/ intellectual property, with ten (10) published in the last five (5) years. Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master’s and one (1) Doctoral (research) students. A Google Scholar index of H-10 will be an advantage.
