Job Description Summary

The Auburn University Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with a start date of August 16, 2026. A strong emphasis will be placed on candidates whose research and teaching expertise include, but are not limited to, AI-Manufacturing, Machine Learning (ML), Data Analytics, and Quality, Statistics, and Reliability (QSR), with preference given to those applying data analytics and ML in manufacturing contexts. Candidates are expected to have a strong theoretical and practical understanding of modern ML, including concepts, methods, tooling, and workflows. Successful candidates should be able to teach classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels in the areas of data analytics, quality statistics, and advanced manufacturing.
Specific areas of research interest include Industry 4.0, AI/ML-driven manufacturing, manufacturing system design and development (including machine-to-machine networking and data collection), data analytics, Smart Manufacturing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and systems analysis for manufacturing.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or terminal degree) in Industrial Engineering, or a related field, from an ABET-accredited institution at the time employment begins. Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a record of high-quality research publications, funded research, and successful industry collaborations. For applicants at the associate or full professor level, a commensurate record of successful academic activities, including strong funded research, teaching, and scholarly publications, will be required.
Candidates selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of employment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a strong, extramurally funded research program in AI/ML and data analytics with applications to manufacturing systems. At the assistant professor level, this includes establishing a competitive and growing research portfolio, while candidates at the associate or full professor level are expected to demonstrate an established record of scholarly impact and national or international recognition. The candidate will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in advanced manufacturing, data analytics, and quality statistics; mentor students and research assistants; and provide leadership in strengthening the department’s Data Analytics program. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to outreach and service at the department, college, and university levels, and to bring innovation, enthusiasm, and leadership to the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Eligibility for Security Clearance is desirable.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Applicants should complete the application online and should submit a cover letter, CV, separate statements of research and teaching experience, and three contacts who can provide letters of recommendation. Applications will be evaluated beginning on November 17, 2025.
