Job Description:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Michigan–Dearborn, a Carnegie-classified R2 Doctoral University (High Research Activity), invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with specialization in cyber-physical systems, quantum computing, and/or semiconductors.

The successful candidate will pursue innovative research with applications in areas such as automotive engineering, energy systems, robotics, or cybersecurity. While primary consideration will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level, exceptional applicants for the Associate Professor rank will also be considered.

The ECE Department, comprising 24 full-time faculty members, is experiencing dynamic growth and is actively recruiting strategic hires to strengthen its core research areas. Our state-of-the-art 123,000-square-foot Engineering Laboratory Building, along with well-equipped facilities, provides outstanding opportunities for both research and teaching. The department offers comprehensive degree programs from B.S. to Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Robotics Engineering. Faculty members engage in externally funded research across diverse areas, including energy systems, autonomous vehicles, cybersecurity, robotics, intelligent systems, wireless networks, and vehicle electronics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and develop a strong, externally funded research program. Effective teaching, scholarly excellence, and active participation in departmental, institutional, and professional service are essential. Outstanding communication and mentoring skills are also required.

The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2026.

Eligibility & Qualifications:

  • An earned Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field by September 1, 2026.
  • Demonstrated potential for high-quality research and scholarly publications; a proven research track record is a plus.
  • Commitment and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including curriculum development and effective communication skills.

Applications:

Qualified applicants are invited to send a cover letter; curriculum vitae; statements of teaching and research interests; and a list of three to five references through Interfolio at: https://apply.interfolio.com/176870. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until suitable candidates are appointed. However, applications received prior to December 31, 2025, will receive the highest priority.

Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in electrical and computer engineering at undergraduate and graduate levels, develop a research program and obtain external funding to support it, work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, and engage in existing and future collaborative research endeavors. The ECE department and the College of Engineering of Computer Science (CECS) value a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  We are committed to developing diverse and culturally intelligent faculty who thrive and contribute to a positive and inclusive environment.
