Job Description Summary

A post-doctoral fellow position is available in the Biosystems Engineering Department at Auburn University, Auburn, AL. The post-doctoral fellow will work in the areas of nutrient management, hydrology, water quantity, and quality modeling. The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to 1) evaluating the effectiveness of agricultural best management practices (e.g., biochar and other related soil amendments) to improve soil health, and water quality and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, (2) using hydrological models to simulate the fate and transport processes of contaminants, (3) mentoring graduate students, (4) develop research proposals and peer-reviewed publications, and (5) present research results at conferences. The initial appointment period will be one year. However, depending on the funding availability and performance of the candidate, the position can be extended beyond one year. The expected start date is April 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications required for this position include a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Agricultural or Civil Engineering, Soil Science, or hydrology-related field at time of employment. Basic knowledge in hydrological modeling (e.g., SWAT, APEX, HYDRUS) and nutrient management is desirable. The candidate should have a prior experience in statistical analysis, publishing peer-reviewed articles, and conducting chemical analyses of water and soil samples in a laboratory. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include previous experience in using analytical instruments such as AQ2 Discrete Analyzer, ICP-OES, and developing proposals for securing extramural funding.
