DESCRIPTION

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is located in Johannesburg, South Africa, the economic and industrial heartland of the African continent, and with a vision to be a people-centric School of Excellence on the African continent and beyond in the discipline of civil and environmental engineering through strategic and innovative leadership in education and research.  The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites suitably qualified persons to apply for the permanent position of Professor / Associate Professor in Reinforced Concrete Structures

PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN REINFORCED CONCRETE

QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

As Professor/Associate Professor, a Doctoral degree in Structural Engineering/Design with a focus on Reinforced Concrete Structures is essential. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is also required. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of independent high-quality research outputs in refereed publications and evidence of excellence in teaching, course development, academic administration, planning, and development. Strong evidence of successful postgraduate student supervision, including PhD students, is essential. The candidate should have a successful record of obtaining external research funding, with the potential for securing further funding in the future. The successful candidate will also have evidence of local and/or international research collaborations and experience in contributing to academic leadership. South African citizens and permanent residents currently employed in academia must possess a National Research Foundation (NRF) rating (https://www.nrf.ac.za/rating/). Industrial and international applicants must have a research profile that meets the requirements for an NRF rating. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PrEng), or eligibility for registration with ECSA, is essential.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

A teaching qualification, relevant industry experience, and involvement in academic leadership would be advantageous.

YOUR ROLE:

  • Develop and sustain a productive research programme.
  • Maintain a record of high-quality research outputs including books and journal papers.
  • Be actively involved in research, innovation and impact at a national and international level, as well as contributing to the School’s activities.
  • Provide mentorship to emerging researchers in the School and Faculty.
  • Contribute effectively to the administrative processes and committee structures of the School, including taking on leadership roles and where appropriate, managing initiatives which facilitate School, Faculty or University performance.
