Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of 13 000 students, 400 professors and close to 4 500 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.
The School of Electrical Engineering is one of the six schools of Aalto University. Our portfolio covers fields from natural sciences to engineering and information sciences. In parallel with basic research, we develop ideas and technologies further into innovations and services. The school is an international unit with close to 60 professors and 2 000 full-time students, including over 200 doctoral students.
We are now looking for a talented and highly motivated
Postdoctoral researcher for Semantics-Aware Real-time Reconstruction and Remote Actuation for 6G
In this position you will carry out research on 6G wireless systems. Research questions include, but are not limited to: Can we develop a 6G framework to support joint estimation and control in real-time? Can we trade fidelity for reducing latency to facilitate delay-sensitive applications? Can we define new metrics and performance indicators to evaluate the time-dependent/sensitive relevance of information? How do we ensure that communication resources are utilized most efficiently in Cooperative Autonomous Systems (CASs)? How does the coupling between control and communication manifest in CASs? How do we establish that autonomous systems can cooperate seamlessly despite the uncertain environment and scarce, unreliable communication resources? What are the impacts of semantic communications on the air interface design of 6G, if any? How should the air interface change from 5G to support semantic communications and WNCSs?
You will get to conduct high-quality research independently, and to work as an active member of the Wireless Signal Processing research group. The duration of the postdoctoral position is two years. Preferable starting time is September 2023, but can be negotiated.
Research group
This research position will be supported by the Wireless Signal Processing group which is led by Professor Risto Wichman. The group conducts research on physical layer of wireless communication systems. The research topics span from building demonstration systems for visible light communications to the analysis of terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems applying stochastic geometry. The group belongs to the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering.
