Assistant Professor or Associate Professor - Electrical & Computer Engineerin

Tenure Track Faculty Position

The UNC Charlotte Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor starting in August 2026 for position #001808. While candidates with expertise in all areas of electrical and computer engineering will be considered, particular emphasis is on computer systems and design aspects that enable real-world AI applications, including hardware-software co-design for machine learning, learning-enabled computer architectures, cloud and edge computing, hardware security, embedded systems, and systems software. Candidates with collaborative research focus are encouraged.

Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of high-impact sponsored research programs, supervision of student research, student mentoring, and academic services. Priority will be given to candidates having original and promising research as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, potential for success in extramural funding, and a plan for future research that integrates well with existing and aspirational department strengths. Hires at the rank of an Associate Professor are also expected to have demonstrated success in receiving extramural research funding, supervising/mentoring of graduate students, and teaching. A Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field is required by the time of contract.

UNC Charlotte has recently earned top-tier status in the nation with its new R1 designation. ECE faculty are leading research and teaching in a broad range of topics including AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, robotics, imaging, next generation communication systems, electronic/optical/RF circuit design, digital twinning, intelligent vehicles, smart and sustainable cities, and transformational energy systems. The ECE department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, with approximately 550 undergraduate and 200 graduate students; see http://ece.charlotte.edu. The ECE Department currently comprises 37 full time faculty members who are actively engaged in research and teaching in the broad areas of computer systems, communications, controls, signal/image processing, electronics devices, microelectronics, and power and energy systems.

Applications must be made electronically at https://jobs.charlotte.edu. Applicants should submit a complete resume/curriculum vitae, a cover letter/letter of intent, a statement of teaching and research experience/goals, and contact information of at least three references. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2025, and the position will remain open until filled.
