Job Summary
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE), with the tentative start date in Fall of 2026. We are seeking an outstanding tenure-track Assistant Professor with a potential to be a world-class leader in the strategic QISE growth area, with a preferred emphasis on either:
1. Quantum information theory, quantum computing algorithms/architectures, applications of quantum computing; or
2. Quantum photonic integrated circuits.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline appropriate to the QISE research focus. The appointment will be in the Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering (CoE). Applicants must show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, professional development, and the ability to build extramurally funded research programs. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, build and lead a team of student researchers, implement a program of externally funded research that yields top-tier publications, and contribute to professional service within UTA and the external community. Duties include (1) building and leading a team of PhD, MS, and BS student researchers and post-docs, (2) developing externally funded research program that yields top-tier publications, (3) commitment to quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and (4) service to the local and international professional communities.

Department Information
UTA’s College of Engineering provides highly trained engineers for the workforce in North Texas and beyond. We have graduated two astronauts, many successful entrepreneurs and dozens of executives at Fortune 500 companies. Our faculty have distinguished themselves on a global stage. We are fulfilling our mission to educate talented engineers who will immediately make an impact on their communities. The College is the most comprehensive engineering program in North Texas, with 12 baccalaureate, 13 Master’s and nine doctoral programs. The University is classified as a Research 1 University — Highest Research Activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and the College of Engineering is the largest contributor to the University’s research enterprise with overall engineering-related research expenditures at UTA totaling more than $64 million. Students from around the world work with award-winning faculty in state-of-the-art facilities, acquiring the knowledge and skills they’ll need to create viable solutions to the most pressing problems of today and the future.

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is part of the College of Engineering (CoE) at UTA, one of the largest engineering colleges in Texas (https://www.uta.edu/engineering). Active research areas include optics and photonics; power electronics; renewable energy and energy storage, electric propulsion; power systems, cyber-physical systems, intelligent and autonomous systems; machine learning; environmental sensing; and wireless communications. The EE department has strong support from the College of Engineering and UTA administration to continue its top tier status in research and teaching excellence.

University Information
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metroplex, a vibrant and diverse metropolitan area that is home to over 7 million people, one of the fastest-growing tech economies in the United States, and a wide array of arts, entertainment, and cultural activities. As a comprehensive teaching, research, and public service institution, UTA is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through scholarship and creative work. With an enrollment of more than 42,000 students, UTA is the second largest in the University of Texas System. As a result of its combination of rigorous academics and innovative research, UTA is designated as a Carnegie R-1 “Very High Research Activity” institution and nationally recognized for its commitment to student success and service.
