The Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (MNE) at Kansas State University (KSU) invites applications from individuals with a background in materials science and engineering for a tenure-track faculty position with the rank of assistant professor (preferred), or associate professor (will consider in exceptional cases). Required qualifications include a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Desired qualifications include expertise in materials under extreme environments, nanotechnology, surface science, and functional coatings, and an established record of obtaining extramural funding and publishing in these areas of research. However, applicants with backgrounds in any area related to materials for energy applications will be considered.  The successful candidate will leverage the new Nanotechnology Core Lab to obtain extramural funding and contribute to development of the mechanical engineering curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized, externally funded, sustainable research program at KSU, and contribute to the department through student mentoring, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will also collaborate with intramural and extramural researchers, leading multidisciplinary teams that build upon KSU’s long history of leadership in mechanical engineering. The MNE department has strong research programs in microfluidics, multi-phase flows, heat transfer, nanomaterials and processes, and interfacial transport phenomena. The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering also offers degrees in chemical engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering, biological and agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, and biomedical engineering, presenting unique collaboration opportunities for the successful candidate.

The MNE department has 24 faculty members and an enrollment of approximately 800 undergraduate and graduate students. More information on the MNE department may be found at http://www.mne.ksu.edu. The Carl R. College of Engineering is located on the main Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, Kansas, a vibrant, family-friendly city located in the scenic Flint Hills. Manhattan is the cultural and business hub of a tri-county area community of over 200,000 residents (see  www.manhattan.org).

Applicants should upload application documents to https://careers.k-state.edu/jobs/assistant-associate-professor-manhattan-kansas-united-states-a5959e98-10b3-4c4c-8c6a-892a2d6ed04b including a letter of application, CV, statements of teaching and research interests, and contact information for five professional references. Review of applications will begin March 7, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. KSU is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks a diverse workforce. A background check is required for this position.
