Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Civil Engineering to begin in Fall 2026. RMC’s ABET-accredited Engineering program is part of the Department of Physics, Engineering, and Astrophysics and includes a rigorous series of foundation and elective courses focused largely on Engineering Mechanics as well as hands-on, project-based design, and analysis courses where students learn to apply the essential technical principles to a series of complex, real-world problems. 

Major/Essential Functions: Randolph-Macon College faculty teach, advise, conduct research and engage in scholarship with undergraduate students, and serve the College and program.

Institution Information: Randolph-Macon College is a nationally-recognized residential institution of about 1800 students located in Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond. Founded in 1830, the college offers a broad range of academic programs, including a graduate program in PA studies. The RMC curriculum, grounded in a liberal arts core, and our culture of personal attention foster intellectual growth and personal development, with a steadfast focus on helping students find and navigate pathways through college and to successful outcomes. Minimum Qualifications

  • D. in Civil Engineering or a closely-related field at the time of appointment with a focus in the areas of Structural and/or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Evidence of experience in teaching
  • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity in the applicant’s area of study.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching a variety of fundamental undergraduate Engineering Mechanics courses.
  • Ability to offer a variety of undergraduate Civil Engineering Electives in the areas of Structural and/or Geotechnical Engineering.  
  • Dedication to educating the whole student in a liberal arts environment and a passion to grow into an outstanding teacher who inspires students through innovative and engaging instruction.
  • Evidence of ability to engage undergraduates in the applicant’s scholarly activity.
  • A demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.
  • Professional Engineering Experience.

Additional Valuable Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer’s License.
  • Evidence of a commitment to student engagement including academic and career advising.
  • Evidence of success in recruiting undergraduate students.
  • Experience with ABET-accreditation.

  • The names and contact information for three professional references (at least one must be able to address teaching experience and teaching effectiveness; please indicate the teaching reference in your letter of application). Please do not ask references to submit letters of recommendation; the committee will conduct reference checks by phone.
