Director – DoD STEM Program
The Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Director of the DoD STEM Program. The College of Engineering Architecture and Technology is building a STEM Education Ecosystem for Future DoD Engineers, this is a significant multi-year initiative. The goal of this transdisciplinary, project-based learning (PBL) approach to 1st-8th grade STEM education is to create a sustainable, long-term pipeline of STEM talent in Oklahoma to meet the challenges of the DoD STEM workforce.
The Director provides leadership and management of the DoD STEM program including: program planning and management, coordination of community and school activities, establishing relationships and partnerships with schools, teachers, parent, community groups, leaders, businesses in support of the STEM goals, coordinating teacher recruitment and training, management of the program budget, coordinating program evaluation and reporting, program marketing, and supervision of subordinates.
This position will be based at OSU DISCOVERY in Oklahoma City; 300 NE 9th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104 and will require frequent travel throughout the state including overnight and multiple evening events. Travel may require weekday evenings. Occasional out-of-state travel is required.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other STEM fields with five years of experience in administration and delivery of governmental programs, grant administration, governmental reporting or technical training or education programs. Experience in planning and delivering programs for communities or military bases and engagement/building consensus with community, school, and business stakeholders. Budgeting, program evaluation and reporting, and program marketing.
The selected candidate must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, public speaking and organizational skills. Knowledge of STEM programs and the communication of STEM to non-STEM educated participants. Ability to execute and formulate strategies for community-based STEM programs, understanding of STEM educational methods and theory, and willing to work with local, state, and federal STEM education initiatives and resources. Knowledge of academic requirements for entrance into college STEM degree programs. A high degree of organizational skills, initiative, self-direction, and decision-making. A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relations with university researchers, school administrators, teachers, community leaders, parents, students, and business leaders. A demonstrated ability to administer and lead multi-faceted STEM or other programs to a highly diverse and economically disadvantaged audience with varying levels of math and science proficiency. Willingness to implement new practices for community-based STEM programs. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to administer federal and state grants for STEM or other education initiatives.
Compensation: The hiring range for this position is $67,200 – $91,200 based on applicant qualifications.
