The Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (MNE) at Kansas State University (K-State) invites applications from individuals with a background in nuclear materials for a tenure-track faculty position with the rank of assistant professor (preferred) or associate professor (considered in exceptional cases). Required qualifications include a doctorate in nuclear engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely related field. Desired qualifications include expertise in nuclear materials, including state-of-the art computational modeling and materials characterization methods, and an established record of obtaining extramural funding and publishing in areas of research relevant for developing and deploying advanced nuclear power (e.g., nuclear fuel development, nuclear waste management, radiation effects on materials, nanomaterials for nuclear, and radiation processing) and advancing human health by improving medical diagnostic imaging and radiation therapies. However, applicants with backgrounds in any area related to advanced nuclear reactor enabling technologies will be considered.
The successful candidate will leverage the K-State Research Reactor to obtain extramural funding and contribute to development of the nuclear engineering curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized, externally funded, sustainable research program at
K-State and contribute to the department through student mentoring, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will also collaborate with intramural and extramural researchers, leading multidisciplinary teams that build upon K-State’s historical leadership in nuclear engineering. The MNE department has strong research programs in radiation detection, nuclear reactor analysis, radiation protection/health physics, nuclear thermal hydraulics, microfluidics, multi-phase flows, nanomaterials and processes, and interfacial transport phenomena. The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering also offers degrees in chemical engineering, civil engineering, biological and agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, and biomedical engineering, presenting unique collaboration opportunities for the successful candidate.
More information on the MNE department may be found at http://www.mne.ksu.edu. The Carl R. College of Engineering is located on the main Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, Kansas, a vibrant, family-friendly city located in the scenic Flint Hills. Manhattan is the cultural and business hub of a tri-county area community of over 200,000 residents (see www.manhattan.org).
Applicants should upload application documents to … including a letter of application, CV, statements of teaching and research interests, and contact information for five professional references. Review of applications will begin March 14, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. K-State is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks a diverse workforce. A background check is required for this position.
