Key Performance Area
Deliver high-quality and innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, designing assessments that support student success. Supervise and mentor research students, ensuring academic integrity and ethical practice. Lead curriculum development and review to maintain academic relevance and industry alignment. Conduct individual and collaborative research, build a strong publication record, and pursue external funding opportunities. Provide academic leadership, mentor junior staff, and foster a collaborative departmental environment. Contribute to governance through active participation in committees and support institutional quality assurance and strategic initiatives. Assist with student selection, registration, and advising in line with university policies. Lead outreach and capacity-building initiatives with community and industry partners. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of Department or senior leadership.
Job Requirements
A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related qualification with at least six years of lecturing experience at tertiary education level and/or industry experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Proven competence in successful sourcing of research or project funding from third-party sources, successful initiation and management of research projects, curriculum development, and strong management/organizational and mentorship skills. Competence to teach at least three of the following courses: Machine Learning, Deep Learning Techniques, Knowledge Representation, Decision Making Methods, Reinforcement Learning Algorithms, and Natural Language Processing. Competence to establish professional networks and maintain links with the industry, as well as experience in developing postgraduate programmes, strong management skills, and a proven record of raising substantial research funding. A credible record of lecturing, peer-reviewed publications, community engagement, programme coordination, as well as supervision of students (research) at both under- and post-graduate levels will be an advantage. A sound research profile with a Google Scholar h-index of 4 and successful supervision of Master’s (research) students will be an advantage.
