Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The individuals selected will be able to independently design and execute novel research experiments related to his/her expertise under the general direction of the principal investigators on one of the following research tasks; (a) additive manufacturing and materials characterization and (b) experimental aerodynamics.

Potential areas of expertise for position (a) include:

Durability assessment of materials and components fabricated using additive manufacturing
Fracture and failure analysis of load bearing 3D printed components
Development of standards to qualify 3D produced components
Materials synthesis and characterization
Knowledgeable in microscopic and spectroscopic characterization of materials
Ability to obtain and report research results in a timely manner
Ability to supervise and manage a team of graduate students in alignment with project
Ability to lead graduate and undergraduate students in support of logistics and research operations

Potential areas of expertise for position (b) include:

Computational analysis of fluid dynamic problems from low speed to high-speed flow regimes
Experimental and DNS (Direct Numerical Simulation) of turbulence flow
Analysis of aircraft design that employs engine rotation to attain both vertical and efficient horizontal flight
Ability to obtain and report research results in a timely manner
Ability to supervise and manage a team of graduate students in alignment with project priorities
Ability to lead graduate and undergraduate students in support of logistics and research operations

Qualifications

A PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical, or materials engineering
At least two years’ experience in related research fields
Experience with instrumentation and equipment relevant to area of expertise (e.g., DSC, DMA, SEM, FTIR, tensile tester, hardness tester, etc.)
Significant record of scientific publications is required in peer-reviewed journals
Experience in scientific equipment maintenance is a plus
Must communicate effectively interpersonally and in writing

Salary
Commensurate with education, training and experience: Salary contingent upon outside funding.
