Position Description
Area: Microfluidic cartridges of RT-LAMP assay for rapid detection of respiratory infectious diseases
Duration: 12+ months
Start date: January 2022
Salary: $45,000 to 50,000 CAD per year, plus University of Calgary Plan C Benefits

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of mass production of microfluidic chip cartridges for point of care testing devices

Job Description:
A position is available in the Advance Biofabrication Laboratory (“ABL”) at the University of Calgary for a postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary research team developing a novel way for the mass production of microfluidic chips. The work will also involve development, design, modeling, testing and application aspects of microfluidic chips.

This project will be a part of MITACS Accelerate project. The postdoctoral researcher will be closely collaborating with the company sponsor and will be expected to work from the company up to 50% of the time. In addition, the researcher would mentor other team members.

Qualifications:
- Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Engineering or a related field with a focus in one or more areas, including microfluidics, bioMEMS device, colorimetric biosensor, 3D printing, injection molding etc.
- The position requires experience in microfluidic device design and fabrication for POC testing.
- Familiarity or background in biochemical assay and reparatory infectious disease is an asset.
- The applicant should be motivated and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- The successful candidates will have a proven record of success and be able to conduct research independently as well as part of a team.

This position is located in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate is expected to relocate if necessary, to begin work as soon as possible.
