The Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track or probationary tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Oral Sciences.
The Department of Applied Oral Sciences (AOS) is a multidisciplinary fundamental and applied science department within the Faculty of Dentistry. Faculty interests include biomaterial synthesis, cell/implant interactions, in vitro systems, microbiology, translational device development, and local therapeutic delivery. Notably, AOS faculty routinely hold cross-appointments in the Faculties of Medicine, Science, and Engineering at Dalhousie University that support a multidisciplinary graduate program in their respective research groups. These include but are not limited to the School of Biomedical Engineering, Departments of Microbiology & Immunology, Chemistry, Physics, Process Engineering and Applied Sciences, Surgery, and Radiology.
To complement the research conducted within the department, applications are being sought from candidates with established research expertise in advanced applied biomaterials science and technology, including design and application of biomaterials for chronic disease prevention, treatment, and management. Applicants with specific expertise in microbial synthesis or persistence as it relates to biomaterials, bioinspired and/or stimuli-responsive therapeutic delivery, metallic materials, extracellular matrix biology, or biosensors are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in one of the following areas: chemical, materials or biomedical engineering; material/polymer chemistry; biophysics; microbiology; or a related discipline, and academic or industrial postdoctoral experience. This individual will be expected to compete effectively for extramural research funding and maintain an active research program that has the capacity to attract both NSERC and CIHR funding. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Faculty of Dentistry and will actively engage in graduate student supervision.
