The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in CubeSat or SmallSat propulsion. Technical expertise in chemical, electrical or new, unconventional, hybrid propulsion systems is desired. Candidates with demonstrated expertise that blends theory, experiment and practice in spacecraft propulsion will be viewed favorably. In addition, having experience and interest in propulsion support technologies including power systems, fuel storage, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) will be an advantage. The appointment may be at all levels and rank, although Assistant Professor is envisioned. The positions can begin as early as January 2019.
The successful candidates will be expected to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, establish internationally recognized and externally funded research programs, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and undertake service activities within the University and in the professional community at national and international levels. Opportunities exist for synergy with research activities in the Department and the University, including an initiative in Space Situational Awareness (SSA), CubeSats and Earth Sciences.
Required qualifications are a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline, and demonstrated research potential or accomplishments. Interested applicants are asked to submit:
