Description

The Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering invites applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering. 

With over 100 years of history of innovative, interdisciplinary and creative research and teaching, the Department is one of the premier chemical engineering departments in the country. The Department currently has 20 core faculty members. The student body includes over 200 undergraduates (sophomore - senior), 90 Masters, over 100 PhD students, and approximately 25 postdoctoral research fellows and visitors. Research in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon is characterized by interdisciplinary synergistic interactions, driven by the university’s strong collaborative culture. Research activities include computational and experimental methodologies that span fundamental science to technology development. Current research foci include: process systems, envirochemical, complex fluids, biomolecular, energy, and catalysis/surface engineering. Qualifications

An accomplished academic leader is sought to provide strategic vision and outstanding operational management, to oversee world-class research and educational programs, and to guide the Chemical Engineering Department to the next level of accomplishment and impact. The Chemical Engineering Department Head will maintain and strengthen the culture of collaboration and innovation in the department; expand the reputation of the department; lead the department in strategic planning; promote diversity within the department and institution; and demonstrate a commitment to high-quality administration and high-quality student experience. We are dedicated to building a culturally diverse research and educational environment and seek applicants who can help us do that.

Individuals with expertise across a wide range of areas related to chemical engineering will be considered. Applicants must have an earned PhD in a field of engineering or science closely related to chemical engineering. Teaching experience and an internationally recognized record of research are essential. Applicants must be qualified for an appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure.
