Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Modular Integrated Construction Structures/ Modular Integrated Construction Smart-Technology/Modular Integrated Construction Materials/Water & Environmental Technology in the Department of Civil Engineering (4 posts) (Ref.: 524608), to commence on June 1, 2024 or as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year contract.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the five engineering departments in the Faculty of Engineering.  The Department has a world class reputation for leading research and teaching in civil engineering, and has nurtured high-calibre leaders for the community as well as the civil engineering profession.  The Department is ranked 20th in the world under the QS University Subject Rankings 2022 in the subject area of civil and structural engineering.  The Department is active in research in construction management and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and water and environmental engineering.  Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.civil.hku.hk/ .

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Structural Materials, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering or a related field for the relevant post, with relevant experience in teaching and research.  A strong background in infrastructure technology and/or information technology in construction, primarily focusing on MiC, modular construction, or modular building, but also including digital twin, building information modelling, geographic information system, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, internet-of-things, sensors, blockchain, automation and robotics, smart infrastructure, etc. is required. Experience in the area of smart and liveable cities, OR a strong background in environmental engineering, low/zero carbon technology, sustainable infrastructure, environmental biotechnology/chemistry/materials, and/or environmental data science would be desirable. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as supervise research students and projects.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
