The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position to begin in August 2025. Candidates with expertise in the Thermal Sciences, including, but not limited to, electronic thermal management, renewable energy systems, energy and thermal storage solutions, high-performance buildings, propulsion, advanced thermal materials, new metrologies, and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning methodologies in thermal sciences. Research or industry experience in the aforementioned areas is preferred. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field at the time employment begins. Candidates will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels. Applicants at the Associate and Full Professor levels must have active nationally or internationally recognized research programs. 

The ME Department currently has 51 faculty members and supports strong graduate and undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. Enrollments during the Fall Semester 2024 include 800 undergraduate students in major and 200 graduate students. Current departmental areas of research strength include additive manufacturing, unmanned and robotic systems, biomechanics, electronic packaging and reliability, solid mechanics and advanced materials, electronics cooling and thermal management, tribology, advanced powertrains, MEMS, and energy systems. The Auburn University College of Engineering has several unique opportunities to enable faculty success including (1) strong connection with the defense industry, (2) local automotive and aerospace companies including production additive manufacturing, (3) a class 10 clean room for electronics manufacturing and packaging, (4) a national center for additive manufacturing of metals, (5) an autonomous vehicle research building and automotive test track, (6) a MRI center, and (7) collaborations with faculty in veterinary medicine and a new medical school. Auburn is located 100 miles southwest of Atlanta, has an excellent public school system, and has been nationally ranked as one the “best small towns in America. ”The individuals selected for these positions will be expected to contribute to the growth of the department by developing a strong externally-funded research program, collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects, publishing research results in appropriate scholarly outlets, directing graduate students, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and being involved in service to the department and profession. Excellent communication skills and a high level of personal motivation are required. The candidates selected for these positions must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
