Department of Civil Engineering, New Mexico State University invite applications for an Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Structural Engineering. The area of the focus includes Probabilistic Modeling, Data Science, and Deep Learning in various structural engineering applications. The selected candidate will engage in multiple interdisciplinary research projects related to uncertainty modeling as well as deep learning including a NSF-sponsored research project related to the uncertainties of offshore wind turbine structures, NASA-sponsored deep learning project, and more.
Ph.D. in civil engineering or other closely-related engineering areas.
Proficiency in Python (or other programming skills) and libraries for data processing and analytics
Understanding of theoretical and mathematical foundations of structural engineering and preferably reliability engineering
Experience in data analytics and machine learning/deep learning
Strong oral and written communication in English
Excellent work ethic, self-initiative, and interpersonal skills
The responsibilities include: (1) Conduct a comprehensive literature review on the topic areas; (2) Develop or modify necessary computational models; (3) Develop grant funding proposals, write journal articles, work with students and faculty and assist with and/or lead the project reports.
Position Duration and Salary:
The initial appointment is for one year (12 months) and renewal of another year upon satisfactory performance. The start date is flexible (preferred not to be later than Aug 2022). Competitive salary of $60,000/yr is supplemented with fringe and benefits.
