Assistant Professor Emerging Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics - Fall 2025
College/School/Unit: Cockrell School of Engineering Department: Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics Posted: Oct 2, 2024 Apply By: Open until filled
Description
The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor that is broadly focused on emerging aeronautics, especially as it pertains to advanced air mobility, aircraft design, and propulsion.
Specific methodological areas of interest include but are not limited to the design, analysis, and optimization of novel aircraft; the design and management of energy storage and power delivery in aircraft; novel propulsion solutions for sustainable aviation; air traffic management and noise mitigation for advanced air mobility.
Candidates are encouraged to view these areas of interest in the broadest sense when determining whether they are well suited for this position. They are expected to have a demonstrated interest in the application of these areas to aerospace engineering and be able to articulate why their proposed research area will undergo significant growth over the next few decades.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is committed to supporting the success of all members of our community: students, staff, and faculty. A successful candidate can expect to benefit from and contribute to those efforts.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD in engineering, or related disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to create undergraduate and graduate learning environments that address the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds, with differing learning styles and abilities. Further, the successful applicant will be expected to develop an externally sponsored research program, mentor graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and profession.
Application Instructions
Interested applicants should submit the following materials:
(1) a cover letter, (2) current curriculum vitae, (3) research statement, (4) teaching statement, (5) mentoring statement, and (6) three professional reference letters. Please see https://ae.utexas.edu/people/faculty/faculty-openings for additional information and guidance.
Candidates should address their submission to the Emerging Aeronautics Faculty Search Committee. Evaluation of applications will begin on December 2, 2024, and will continue until an appropriate candidate is identified.
The successful candidate will be required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification form and provide documents to verify identity and eligibility to work in the USA. A security sensitive background check will be conducted on the applicant selected.
Please address questions to Prof. John-Paul Clarke, the Emerging Aeronautics Faculty Search Committee Chair (johnpaul@utexas.edu).
