Salary/Position Classification

  • $100,000+ Commensurate with experience and rank, 9-month, Tenured Associate or Full Professor.
    • Additional compensation for the role of Department Director will include $15,000 to be paid over 12 months and one month's salary ($11,111+) to paid May 16- August 15.
  • 40 hours per week

Purpose of Position

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Director. SEECS is the largest and fastest-growing unit within the College of Engineering and Mines and includes undergraduate and graduate programs in electrical engineering, computer science, cyber security, and data science. This is primarily an administrative position with a focus on mentoring faculty, student recruiting and retention, program assessment, and outreach to alumni and industry partners. The next Director of SEECS must be passionate about education, committed to delivering the highest-quality programs possible to our on-campus and online students, and able to work effectively with faculty, students, and other stakeholders. Subject to approval by the University and State Board of Higher Education, this is a tenured position, and an appointment will be made at a rank consistent with experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will have qualifications consistent with the rank of Full or Associate Professor. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Industry Engagement: Develop and nurture relationships with industry partners, ensuring that our programs align with the evolving needs of the industries they serve.
  • Faculty Mentoring: Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to faculty, fostering an environment of academic excellence and innovation.
  • Student Recruitment: Spearhead initiatives to attract and enroll students into our undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Program Development: Work closely with faculty to review and improve the curriculum, ensuring it remains current and relevant.
  • Administrative Leadership: Serve as a member of the College of Engineering and Mines leadership team, manage SEECS budget, oversee staff, and represent SEECS at institutional and external events.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop a well-defined vision for the SEECS future and a strategic roadmap for accomplishing its objectives. Demonstrate an understanding of how the School aligns with the overarching goals of both UND and the state of North Dakota.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education, or a closely related field and 10 years of combined professional experience in an industry or academic setting.
    • OR M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education, or a closely related field and 15 years of teaching or research experience in an industry or academic setting.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of academic or industry leadership experience with a record of mentoring and developing direct reports.
  • A record of successful collaboration with industry partners.
  • A strong record of published research, external research funding, or other contributions to the field
