JOIN THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL, INDUSTRIAL AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering or a related qualification with a minimum of seven (7) years of lecturing experience at tertiary education level and/or industry experience or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Proven competence in successful sourcing of research or project funding from third-party sources, successful initiation, and management of research projects, curriculum development, and strong management/organisational and mentorship skills. Competence to develop high-quality course materials and teach in at least three of the following courses at both under- and post-graduate levels: Digital Signal Processing, Signals and Systems, Digital Communication Techniques and Systems, Digital Electronics Circuits, Analogue Communications Techniques and Systems, Optical Communications Systems, Electronic Communications. Competence to assume academic leadership, to establish professional networks, and to maintain links with industry, as well as experience in developing postgraduate programmes. Sound research profile in at least ten (10) peer-reviewed journals/books/conference proceedings and successful supervision of at least three (3) Master’s (research) students. A Google Scholar h-index of 6 will be an advantage.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Deliver high-quality teaching, learning experiences, and assessments at both under and postgraduate levels, and supervise student research projects, dissertations, and theses. Contribute to curriculum development, review, and enhancement, ensuring academic relevance and excellence. Actively participate in departmental administration, governance, and strategic initiatives. Maintain a strong research profile through sustained publication output, seek external research funding, and manage research projects. Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees to support institutional goals. Mentor junior academic staff in teaching, research, and service. Assist with student selection, admission, and registration processes, ensuring alignment with academic standards. Engage in community outreach and capacity-building initiatives, strengthening the Department’s societal impact. Establish and maintain professional networks and industry partnerships to foster academic and research collaboration and perform any other reasonable responsibilities that may be assigned by the departmental or faculty leadership as needed.
