Position Summary

The Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (CSEE) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for a non-tenure track position in Construction Engineering, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Teaching (Lecturer). We are particularly looking for candidates who have a passion for teaching, can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty members, and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential within a professional culture that values equity, diversity, and inclusion. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Duties include:

(1) Teaching and development of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in one or more of the following areas: construction management, estimation and contracting, safety, artificial intelligence, robotics and/or sustainable construction practices. Candidates with appropriate expertise may also work with other faculty to develop projects and assist with the management of senior capstone design courses, and/or develop online graduate content.

(2) Departmental service, which might include but is not limited to: student advisement at the undergraduate and graduate level; management of industry internships; coordination of laboratory and instrumentation upgrades; participation in initiatives that promote student excellence and diversity enhancement; and assistance in preparing and managing external grant proposals related to pedagogical and curricular innovation.

About the Department
The CSEE Department offers BS degrees in civil engineering and environmental engineering, both accredited by the Accreditation Commission of ABET. At the graduate level, CSEE offers MS/PhD degrees in civil engineering, MS/PhD degrees in environmental and water resources engineering, an MS program in engineering sustainability, and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Bridge Engineering.

The Department currently comprises 33 tenure-track faculty, 5 teaching faculty, approximately 500 undergraduate majors, 90 masters students and 60 doctoral students. CSEE scholars routinely engage in collaborations with colleagues from diverse academic disciplines and participate in numerous cross-disciplinary research centers. Teaching faculty work closely with colleagues from the Department of Engineering Education.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a doctorate in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications
Licensure as a registered Professional Engineer (PE); experience teaching in an ABET-accredited engineering program; demonstrated excellence in research; professional work experience in one of the identified focus areas.
