The School of Science and Engineering at Duquesne University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position in mechanical engineering with a start date of August 2025. This is an exciting opportunity because the mechanical engineering program is new at Duquesne and the new hire will have a unique opportunity to build and reshape the program to train the next generation of engineers for the ever-changing engineering profession. This position is open to all specialty areas of mechanical engineering, and candidates with expertise in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: mechanical design, advanced manufacturing, automotive engineering, engineering education, mechatronics and robotics, AI and machine learning in engineering applications. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate courses, developing a funded research program, advising and mentoring students, and providing service to the department, university, and profession. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field by the start date of the employment.
- Ability to teach core mechanical engineering courses.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Record of teaching excellence
- Experience with ABET accreditation
- Experience with new program development
- Capstone design experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Industrial experience
- Record of grant funding or proposal writing
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
