Research fields:Biomaterials and medical applications

PhD research assistant positions are available at Prof. Zhiqiang Cao's lab at Wayne State University. Start date for the PhD student is summer or fall 2025. 

Cao lab uses a multidisciplinary approach, to study new materials and their translational applications in healthcare and biomedical engineering. Candidates with background in (1) polymer chemistry and biomaterials, or (2) biological and animal studies are welcome to apply. Specific research area is open, but candidates with significant experience in (1) organic/material synthesis, or (2) in vitro cellular work or in vivo models will be favorably considered. Qualified applicants are expected to be self-motivated. Student with master training will be preferred but not required. Prof. Zhiqiang Cao joined the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University in January 2013 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in April 2017 and to Professor in 2021. His research is supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and multiple programs from Breakthrough T1D (formally JDRF). He received the 2016 NIH NIDDK Type 1 Diabetes Pathfinder Award (DP2).
