The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor position. Specifically, we are looking for self-motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with a strong research background in or related to one or more of the following areas: (1) AI, data analytics, or data mining; (2) IC design such as memory, digital, mixed-signal IC design; (3) AI accelerator design; (4) embedded systems or wearable device development; (5) hardware security and privacy; (6) neuromorphic computing; or (7) design for environmental sustainability. The expected start date is January 1, 2024. This position will be supported entirely by external funding and is annually renewable.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will include, but not limited to, conducting research and scholarship, aiding the team in developing innovative ideas for future proposals, preparing grant proposals, serving as Co-PI/PI on grants and contracts, mentoring research staff including graduate students and postdoc researchers, synthesizing results into peer-reviewed manuscripts, presenting results at conferences, and updating sponsors on the status of the project as required.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required. All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates near completion of the degree will be considered. However, the selected candidate must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate specific research expertise in at least one of the following areas: (1) AI, data analytics, or data mining; (2) IC design such as memory, digital, mixed-signal IC design; (3) AI accelerator design; (4) embedded systems or wearable device development; (5) hardware security and privacy; (6) neuromorphic computing; or (7) Design for environmental sustainability.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will have a proven ability to write scientific reports, grant applications, and publish in scientific, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prior experience working on federally funded projects and/or in the topics specified above is preferred as well as student mentoring experience.
