Tenure-Track Faculty Position - Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The SIBLEY SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY, Ithaca, NY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the general area of computational engineering who focus on the foundations of artificial intelligence and data-science. The department particularly welcomes applications from outstanding innovators who are pioneering computational methods such as artificial intelligence for the discovery of coordinates and governing equations, uncertainty quantification, physics-informed machine learning, data-driven modeling, digital twins for complex systems, and other related areas. Applicants should be interested in building a research program in an area of relevance to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering including but not limited to design, autonomy, mechanics, energy, sustainability, and scientific machine learning. Candidates whose research aligns with the College of Engineering strategic directions or with the strategic discipline areas outlined in Cornell’s radical collaborations initiative are encouraged to apply as well. Excellent candidates engaged in other aspects of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering will also be considered.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in a relevant field and are expected to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program as well as to contribute fully to both undergraduate and graduate instruction in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. While applications at the level of Assistant Professor are strongly encouraged, applications at all levels will be considered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Cornell University fosters interdisciplinary research and an atmosphere of cooperation through its Centers and Field system. Faculty will have outstanding opportunities, and are expected, to collaborate with faculty, research scientists, and graduate students across many Fields (e.g., Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Operations Research and Information Engineering), and Centers/Facilities (e.g., Center for Advanced Computing, Center for Applied Math, Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, Cornell Energy Systems Institute, Institute for Computational Sustainability, AI for Science Institute, AFRL Regional Network Mid-Atlantic Hub).
The Sibley School and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who will foster a climate that attracts students of all races, nationalities, and genders. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented groups in Engineering to apply. Cornell University seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples, has a Dual Career program, and is a member of the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium to assist with dual career searches.
