The Weisberg Division of Engineering in the College of Information Technology and Engineering at Marshall University invites nominations and applications for two positions (002525, and 002526) at an Assistant Professor level of Biomedical Engineering. The Division seeks candidates who have research expertise in one or more of the following areas: Medical Instrumentation, Nanoscale Bioengineering, Biosensors, Medical Imaging, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Modelling in Biomedical Systems, or closely related areas of Biomedical Engineering.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Division, the position of Assistant Professor requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. The faculty member in this position will be required to: (1) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses (lecture and laboratory); (2) supervise master’s theses and undergraduate projects; (3) pursue scholarly activities (including research in the field, writing and managing grant proposals, and preparing peer reviewed publications); (4) engage in academic mentoring; (5) assist in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan; (6) participate in professional service, activities, and organizations. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and exhibit potential for professional recognition via research and publication in their area(s) of expertise. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the University’s general education curriculum, with its emphasis on a common First-Year Seminar and core curriculum courses that enhance students’ critical thinking and the College’s support of interdisciplinary programs of study.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates, at minimum, must meet these requirements: (1) A Ph.D. in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related Engineering field; (2) research record and course work that match their area(s) of interest; (3) strong commitment to teaching and advising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a primary emphasis on undergraduate engineering education; (4) capable of integrating their area(s) of expertise into our curriculum through core/elective courses and laboratories; (5) have an interdisciplinary mindset and work well in a highly collaborative environment; and (6) must be able to communicate effectively.

Background:
The Weisberg Division of Engineering offers a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, a B.S. in Engineering with a Civil Emphasis, a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and an M.S. in Engineering with majors in Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering, Engineering Management, and Environmental Engineering. The Division is part of the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE), a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of faculty expertise and interests. The Division is housed in the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex, a state-of-the-art complex that opened in the Fall of 2015.
